Unapologetically Amber: Living Life, Unfiltered

My Personal Code of Conduct

At some point, I realized that living intentionally required more than reacting to life—it required a personal code of conduct. These are the principles that anchor me, guide my decisions, and remind me of the person I’m choosing to be. They’re not rules imposed on me; they’re values I’ve built through experience, reflection, and personal growth. I think the biggest influence around creating a personal code of conduct is through both spiritual and personal growth. I think putting it down and sharing it may help others develop their own or at least see where they are and realize how far they have come themselves. It reminds me of a mission statement at a corporation, this code of conduct is sort of my mission statement on who I am trying to be and become.

Why a Personal Code of Conduct Matters

Having a personal code of conduct gives me direction, especially in moments of uncertainty. It keeps me grounded when life feels chaotic and helps me stay consistent in how I treat others and myself. With a clear set of values, I make choices that align with my character rather than my circumstances. Through my personal development journey, I think I have identified many areas where I need work and identified the type of person I want to become. I have it in me and already have the attributes, but putting it down in writing is a step that can be a friendly reminder to myself that this is who you are and how you want to be seen so when you are acting out of alignment with your own values, this is a reminder to come back to your true self.

The Core Principles I Live By

My code of conduct is shaped by a few essential principles. Integrity is at the top—doing the right thing even when no one sees it. Respect, patience, and accountability follow closely. I also value showing kindness, honoring boundaries, and communicating with honesty. These values help me navigate relationships, work, and personal challenges with consistency and purpose. I will not lie when I still struggle in some of these areas. I try to stay respectful, but I can pop off at the mouth; I try to be patient, but sometimes it is hard. However, these are attributes and principles that I want to live by as closely as possible. When I make choices that are out of alignment of these principles, I tend to replay the situation in my head and realize I should have handled it better.

How Experience Helped Shape My Code

My code wasn’t created overnight. It was shaped by lessons—some easy, some difficult. Every experience taught me something about who I wanted to be and what I wanted to stand for. Through mistakes, growth, and reflection, I learned which principles mattered most and which actions aligned with the version of myself I’m striving toward. I think the lessons that guided me the most is realizing where I want to be or how I see my future self and realized that I can be that person now. If something were to happen to me, I would want to be known as a person who acted with integrity and was kind to others.

Staying Aligned and Holding Myself Accountable

Living by my code of conduct requires accountability. I check in with myself regularly to make sure my actions reflect my values. When I fall short, I allow room for correction rather than judgment. Staying aligned isn’t about being perfect—it’s about being consistent, aware, and committed to growth. As stated before, if I act out of alignment, it is almost instantly that I start thinking about it and am aware that I made a poor choice. Awareness is something that I have really worked on and continue to work on.

A Living, Evolving Code

One thing I’ve learned is that a personal code of conduct isn’t static—it evolves as I do. As I grow, learn, and change, my values deepen and my understanding expands. I allow my code to grow with me, knowing that each new season of life offers fresh clarity about who I am and who I am becoming.
