Let’s talk about the feeling of falling behind.
I get that feeling a lot. It’s that nagging voice that creeps in, saying things like:
“Hey, you’re almost 40 and still stuck in the same role.”
“You give your best, but everyone else is passing you by.”
These thoughts don’t just show up once and disappear—they circle back, bringing self-doubt and frustration. It’s so easy to fall into that spiral of comparing yourself to others and questioning your worth.
But here’s the truth I try to come back to: Just because someone else’s journey looks different doesn’t mean mine isn’t valuable. It doesn’t mean I’m not growing or succeeding. Even when it’s hard to feel that momentum, I remind myself of the progress I’ve made.
Because here’s the thing: when we stay stuck in that “falling behind” mindset, it can turn into something deeper—anxiety, hopelessness, and unworthiness. And that spiral can be hard to get out of. But we can fight it.
🌟 Shift Your Perspective with Gratitude
One of the most powerful tools I use is gratitude. When I catch myself slipping into that dark headspace, I intentionally shift my thoughts to what I do have:
- A safe, warm home
- A job I’m good at
- A loving family and supportive friends
- The ability to pay my bills and put food on the table
That’s not a small thing. It’s everything.
There are people out there with far less, and yet I find myself wishing for more sometimes. That’s human. But that reminder helps ground me in the blessing of what I already have.
📚 Inspired by Siddhartha
One of my favorite books is Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse. Siddhartha didn’t have a straight path—he wandered, he doubted, he struggled. And still, he found peace—not through status or riches, but by embracing his unique journey. I like to think that’s what I’m doing, too.
Maybe the point isn’t to be ahead or behind. Maybe the point is to be present.
🧠 Mindset Shift: Live in the Now
I recently read that when we think too much about the past or the future, we invite anxiety. But when we focus on now, we find peace. That’s where I try to center my energy:
- Where my finances are right now
- Where my kids are in their lives right now
- Where my relationship is right now
Sure, I dream of more, and I work for better. But I don’t want to miss this moment by worrying about one I haven’t even lived yet.
💬 A Gentle Reminder
I repeat myself a lot in this blog—and that’s okay. I’m not here to be perfect. I’m here to grow. To document the journey. To remind myself (and maybe you, too) that we are not falling behind—we are becoming. And even if it feels like it’s taking longer than it should, everything I need is coming to me in divine timing.
I have faith that God is providing—even on the hard days.
❤️ Let’s Reflect Together:
- Do you ever feel like you’re “falling behind”?
- What helps you reframe those thoughts?
- What’s one area in your life where you want to feel more present?
I’d love to hear your experience in the comments or messages. Let’s build each other up.
