Unapologetically Amber: Living Life, Unfiltered

When Comparison Creeps In: Trusting Your Timeline in a World That Tells You to Rush

Do you ever find yourself comparing your life to someone else’s?
Same here. We all do it.

It’s human nature—and in a world dominated by social media highlight reels, it’s almost impossible not to. But comparison doesn’t just distract us; it deflates us. It makes us feel behind, not enough, or somehow… like we’re doing it all wrong.

But why do we put ourselves through that?

📱 The Social Media Illusion

We know this logically: people only show what they want to show.
What you see is curated, filtered, and often exaggerated for effect.

Yet, somehow, when I see someone announce a big promotion or post family vacation photos from a five-star resort, my gut reaction is, Why not me?

💔 When Comparison Stings the Most

Let’s get real. I work hard. I’ve always had a strong work ethic. But I’ve watched opportunities pass me by—opportunities I know I deserved.

A new hire with less experience makes more than me?
A former intern is now a director?
People I know take expensive trips while we’re tightening our budget?

It can feel like a dagger to the heart.

And the one that’s followed me my whole life: Why can’t I be thin like her?

It’s exhausting. And it’s painful.
But here’s the shift that changed everything for me…

🕰 Trusting the Timing of Your Life

One thing I’ve learned—deeply, humbly—is that everything happens when it’s meant to.

I believe with all my heart that God wants the best for us. But sometimes we’re simply not ready. We may want it now, but He knows we need to grow a little more, learn something, or be better positioned for the blessing.

Timing is protection. Timing is alignment.

🏡 My Life Timeline (And Why I’m Grateful for It)

  • I had my first child in my 20s and was a single mom for a long time.
  • I got married in my 30s.
  • I bought a house in my 20s—big mistake. I wasn’t ready financially.
  • I moved back in with my parents (hello, humility).
  • I bought my second house in my late 30s—and this time, I was ready.

If I had stayed stuck in comparison, I wouldn’t have seen the growth between the two versions of myself. But now? I’m grateful. I needed the lessons of my 20s to become the woman I am in my 30s and 40s.

💫 Final Thoughts: Stay in Your Own Lane

This post is a reminder—for me and maybe for you—to stay in your own lane.

You don’t need to match anyone else’s timeline. Your milestones, your goals, your victories—they are yours.

Keep striving. Keep believing.

Your “win” might not happen today or tomorrow, but when it does?
You’ll be so thankful it came in the exact way—and time—it was supposed to.

So here’s your invitation:
Stop racing. Stop comparing.
Start trusting.
