Unapologetically Amber: Living Life, Unfiltered

The Book That Changed My Perspective: A Review of You’ve Got to Read This Book! by Jack Canfield & Gay Hendricks

I recently finished reading You’ve Got to Read This Book!: 55 People Tell the Story of the Book That Changed Their Life by Jack Canfield and Gay Hendricks—and I can confidently say it will stay with me for a long time. It is a beautiful collection of reflections from people of all backgrounds—business leaders, entertainers, teachers, and healers—each sharing the one book that changed their life forever.

What struck me most was the underlying theme running through every story: no matter the religion or profession, there was a common desire for peace, purpose, service, and love. As I read, I flagged a number of chapters that deeply resonated with me. Below are a few of those highlights and the personal impact they had:

✨ Kenny Loggins & Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse

This book was special to me long before I read this chapter. I discovered Siddhartha as a teenager, questioning my spiritual direction. It taught me that no journey is linear and that hardship can still equal progress. Kenny Loggins echoed that sentiment and emphasized giving 100% to everything you do—just like Siddhartha. A reminder to be intentional.

✨ Rafe Esquith & To Kill A Mockingbird

As a teacher, Rafe focused on the lesson that doing the right thing—even when it’s unpopular—is always right. In today’s world, that reminder couldn’t be more timely. Morality, integrity, and courage still matter.

✨ Louise Hay & The Game of Life and How to Play It

This chapter lit a spark. Louise highlighted the power of speaking positively and manifesting outcomes that align with harmony for all—not just selfish desires. Her perspective reminded me that manifestation is not about demanding results, but trusting divine timing with a grateful heart.

✨ Rhonda Byrne & The Science of Getting Rich

Rhonda’s reflection was a warm reminder of the joy of giving. It’s true—there is something deeply fulfilling about giving freely and with love. Abundance starts from within, and when we give, we create space to receive.

✨ Mark Victor Hansen & Resurrection by Neville Goddard

This chapter emphasized living with an abundant mindset. I love the focus on finding richness in all areas of life: relationships, gratitude, opportunities, and peace—not just money.

✨ Dr. Christiane Northrup & Natives of Eternity

Dr. Northrup’s chapter reminded me that breakdowns often precede breakthroughs. I could relate personally—especially after stepping away from a doctorate program. I realized that by letting go of one dream, I opened the door to a different, fulfilling path, one that birthed a new version of myself.

✨ Jack Canfield & Life After Life

This chapter introduced two beautiful questions reportedly asked in near-death experiences: Did you expand your wisdom? Did you expand your capacity to love? These are now questions I ask myself in moments of reflection. Am I growing? Am I loving?

✨ Max Edelman & Mein Kampf

One of the most powerful stories was from Holocaust survivor Max Edelman. While the book he chose was vile, his reason was brave: he studied it to understand how hate is weaponized. His forgiveness of a young girl ashamed of her family’s Nazi past brought me to tears. It reminded me of grace, growth, and the importance of never forgetting history’s darkest lessons.

✨ Mo Siegel & The Urantia Book

One line from this chapter will stay with me forever: “God is knocking on the door; let’s see whose face He’s wearing this time.” What a beautiful reminder that God is in every one of us—and that kindness, compassion, and open-heartedness matter deeply.
