Surviving Stress, Sickness, and a 141-Page Dissertation Proposal

These past two weeks have been absolutely crazy. One thing I’ve learned? I carry my stress in my shoulders, down my back, and through every muscle that seems to tighten under pressure!

Why all the stress? Well, the first three chapters of my Capstone project (dissertation) were due, along with an oral presentation on my topic. I managed to submit everything with about 26 hours to spare—141 pages of writing condensed into a 15-minute presentation. It met the requirements, and now, I wait to see if I pass the course and move on to the research phase.

From talking to others, I’ve learned that many don’t pass this course on their first attempt, so I know the challenge is real. I’ve maintained all A’s up to this point, but at this stage, I’ll be satisfied with a B. Honestly, this has been the hardest academic challenge I’ve ever faced.

An Eight-Week Break—Sort Of

Now that the deadline has passed, I have a break—at least for eight weeks. What will I do with this time? Ideally, read and start my research. Since I’m using a mixed-method research approach, I can begin analyzing documents now and hold off on interviews until I know my next steps. My goal is to finish at least two books this month, but let’s be real—if I can just get through the one I’m currently reading, I’ll call that a win.

When Your Body Says “Slow Down”

On a completely different note, I’m pretty sure I’m coming down with something. Yesterday, I had about six or seven intense dizzy spells, to the point where I considered a trip to the emergency room. This morning, I woke up with a terrible earache, which might explain the dizziness. Add exhaustion and chills to the mix, and I know I need to take it easy.

So, for the rest of the evening, I’ll be doing just that—ordering dinner for the family and getting some much-needed rest. Here’s to hoping I feel better soon!
