Only If You’re Lucky by Stacy Willingham — A Haunting Thriller of Friendship, Secrets & Betrayal

Okay, y’all. Only If You’re Lucky by Stacy Willingham is an absolute must-read. If you’re into thrillers that dig deep into friendships and all the complicated, sometimes messy emotions that come with them—this book is for you.

At its core, this story is about best friends. The kind you tell everything to. The ones who know your deepest secrets—the ones you wouldn’t dare share with anyone else. As a girl who’s had the same best friend since I was six years old, parts of this book hit home in a big way. The late-night talks, the hanging out in your bedroom, spilling secrets and talking about boys… it just brought back so many memories.

But don’t be fooled—this isn’t just a sweet story about friendship. This is 100% Stacy Willingham. That means twists, turns, and suspense on every single page. It’s a psychological thriller that pulls you in and refuses to let go.

The book takes place at a small liberal arts college in South Carolina. Margot, still grieving the loss of her childhood best friend, ends up moving in with Lucy Sharpe—this wild, magnetic girl who completely shakes up her world. Lucy brings her into a house with two other girls, and what starts as a fun, carefree college vibe quickly turns dark. A fraternity brother ends up murdered… and then Lucy disappears.

From there, it’s a wild ride.

This book is intense, layered, and emotional in all the right ways. It made me think about the lines between loyalty and danger, grief and obsession, and how far we’ll go to be seen, understood, and accepted. And of course—like all of Stacy’s books—it wraps up in a way that feels totally satisfying, but still leaves you thinking about it days later.

I can’t even put into words how much I love Stacy Willingham’s writing. She’s so gifted at creating atmosphere and emotion while keeping you completely on edge. And I might be a little biased—but I’ve had the pleasure of meeting her, and she’s truly one of the kindest people. My copy of this book is signed, so it definitely holds a special place on my shelf.

If you’re looking for your next can’t-put-it-down read, Only If You’re Lucky needs to be at the top of your list.
