My Real-Life Organization Tips (That Actually Keep Me On Track)

Okay, let’s be honest for a second… I plan. A lot. I’m a color-coded-calendar, checklist-loving, “what’s the game plan?” type of woman. And yet—I still forget things sometimes.

Why? Because I’m human. We all are. That said, I do have some pretty solid systems in place that help me stay mostly on top of work, business, and mom life (just don’t look inside my linen closet… or my junk drawer).

So here’s a look at what helps me stay organized and sane, even on the chaotic days.

📆 PREP MODE: Before the Day Even Begins

1. Add appointments immediately.

As soon as I schedule something, I add it to all calendars—paper planner, phone, Google calendar if needed. Don’t wait. That’s how things get lost in the shuffle.

2. End the workday with a quick calendar check.

In the last 5 minutes of my workday, I review tomorrow’s schedule. This quick step helps me mentally prep, make adjustments if needed, and avoid surprises first thing in the morning.

3. Sunday family sync.

Each Sunday, I sit down with the kids and my husband to go over everyone’s week. Who has practice? Doctor appointments? After-school activities? We jot it all down and get on the same page—which saves me so many headaches during the week.

🌞 MORNING ROUTINE: Starting the Day with Intention

I’ve learned the best way to manage a busy schedule is to center myself before the day takes over.

4. Skincare + silence.

My morning skincare routine is like my peaceful little reset. While washing my face or putting on moisturizer, I take a deep breath, say a silent prayer, and just allow myself to be.

5. Read something uplifting.

Before diving into emails or texts, I try to read something inspirational—whether it’s scripture, a quote, a daily devotional, or a page from a mindset book. It sets the tone for the day.

6. Review my to-do list and calendar again.

This keeps me aligned and helps me prioritize. Some days I rewrite my top 3 priorities on a sticky note and keep it visible all day long.

✨ BONUS TIPS: The Little Things That Help

  • Create a “brain dump” notebook. I keep a notepad or Google Doc open where I throw random thoughts, ideas, reminders, and tasks. It helps clear my head and I can sort it later.
  • Batch similar tasks. I try to group things like emails, content planning, errands, and phone calls together so I’m not switching gears all day long.
  • Set alarms and reminders. Especially for school pickup, bill payments, and appointments. Because even the best planner can’t remember everything.
  • Have a “reset time.” Each evening I give myself 10 minutes to tidy, prep for the next day, and mentally unwind. I don’t always want to do it—but Future Me is always grateful I did.
