A Beautiful Mother’s Day Filled with Love, Laughter, and Bacon Dressing

I want to start by thanking my husband and kids for an amazing Mother’s Day. My kids didn’t complain too much (win!), and my husband had everything perfectly organized. He gifted me a spoon bracelet I’ve wanted for ages—it’s vintage, elegant, and made from a 1939 silver spoon. I absolutely adore it.

He also got me a hilarious t-shirt that reads: “Mom. Mommy. Ma. Bruh.” If you’re a mom of teenagers, you get it. 😂

We went to lunch at California Dreaming in Charleston, and let me tell you—the harbor views and the warm bacon dressing salad were everything. Even as someone who’s not big on salads, this one is a must-try: ham, turkey, cheese, egg, almonds, and that dressing… chef’s kiss.

Balancing Work, School, and Life With a Planner (and Coffee)

Mother’s Day was the calm before the storm—this week is jam-packed. Between meetings for my government job, managing multiple real estate transactions as a transaction coordinator, and keeping up with my doctoral coursework, things are full steam ahead.

Yes, my dissertation draft is at 142 pages and counting. I’ve identified three new articles to incorporate, and I’m aiming to review 20 in total this week. It’s a lot, but I’m determined. This blog might just be me giving myself a pep talk—so thanks for being part of it. 😅

Teen Birthdays and Funny Gift Requests

Next week, our oldest turns 17! I need to order a chocolate cake (his favorite) and come up with some gift ideas. He’s a minimalist, but he did ask for deodorant and fun socks—because apparently, he’s out of deodorant and enjoys quirky socks. I love his sense of humor.

Garden Updates, Stormy Weather, and Hope for the Drift Rose

We’ve had nonstop rain and thunderstorms lately, which unfortunately triggered a migraine. So, no gardening for now—but I think I saw my celery finally sprouting! That’s a win since it hadn’t come up before. The asparagus is doing well, though I’ve learned I can’t harvest it for three years. Gardening is the ultimate exercise in patience.

I also planted a drift rose bush, and while all the petals have fallen off (cue my husband declaring it “dead”), it’s still green. According to my online research, that’s normal. Fingers crossed for new blooms soon!
