Managing the Chaos: Work, Family, Faith & Finding Balance

It’s Monday, and this week is already shaping up to be hectic. Work is in full swing, with an overwhelming number of contracts, looming deadlines, and back-to-back meetings that eat up hours of the day. And, of course, there are always those unexpected surprises that pop up. Honestly, a nap sounds great, but we’re just getting started with our busy season.

On the bright side, my business is growing—thank you, Jesus! I’m absolutely loving my transaction coordinator work and staying on my toes to get everything done. I do need to carve out time to market myself as a Realtor, but it just hasn’t happened yet. Maybe it’s because I genuinely enjoy the paperwork side of things, and God has me exactly where I’m meant to be. Still, I’m brainstorming ways to promote my business so I can increase my income.

One of my major goals is to take my kids to Universal Studios or Disney this year—or maybe even both! I refuse to go into debt for it, so I’m working extra hard to make it happen. At the same time, I’m pushing forward with my schoolwork, praying that I continue doing well in this class and stay on track toward my Doctorate. People weren’t kidding when they said this would be the hardest academic challenge of their lives. Balancing full-time work, being a mom, wife, and business owner—it’s a lot.

This weekend was… interesting. I really wanted to relax on Saturday, but instead, I ran errands and did research. I did manage to squeeze in a funny movie with Liam, which was a nice break. Sunday, however, was just bizarre. My husband and I kept running into strange situations—rude customer service and employees who clearly didn’t want to be at work. To be fair, the ones who were annoyed were at least polite, but you could tell they wished we weren’t there.

Now, let’s talk about food! I’m craving an extra-cheesy pizza—maybe pepperoni. I have no idea why, but it sounds amazing. We’ll probably grab a take-and-bake pizza for tonight. I had planned bacon-wrapped beef skewers for tomorrow. I’m trying to get better at meal planning, though I don’t think I’m quite there yet. I know I’ll make a roast on Thursday since I have a church meeting that night. I also have teriyaki chicken skewers for one night—maybe Friday? I just need to figure out Wednesday’s dinner, and then I’ll feel like I’ve somewhat accomplished meal planning for the week.

Speaking of my church meeting, I recently joined the Columbiettes, a ladies’ group focused on spiritual growth and charitable work. I’m really excited to be part of it! Since moving to South Carolina and working from home, I haven’t had many opportunities to meet new people. I know I should go to more real estate meetings and network, but honestly, it’s hard for me. I feel comfortable at home. Plus, I have no idea what to wear! Since Mother’s Day 2024, I’ve lost around 68 lbs.—a total of 168 lbs. from my highest weight! Needless to say, nothing fits, and I refuse to buy new clothes until I reach my final weight. In the meantime, I’m finding affordable options at Goodwill and other secondhand stores—two pairs of business casual pants for $10 felt like a win!

Finally, my Monday ended on a bit of a strange note. Two elementary school kids got into a fight right in front of my house after getting off the bus. They were siblings, but the younger one was screaming and crying. I intervened, walked them home, and introduced myself to their mom. I let her know what I witnessed—not to get them in trouble, but just to ensure they got home safely.

So, my questions for you all this Monday evening:

  • How do you get out and meet people? Do you join groups or just start chatting with strangers?
  • Where do you find affordable clothing?
  • Have you ever purchased from Shein? If so, what was your experience like?
  • What are your plans for the week?

Looking forward to hearing from you!
