I recently finished Good Vibes, Good Life by Vex King, and wow—it was an incredible read! While some of the concepts were familiar to me, the way King presents them felt fresh and relatable. One of the standout ideas is that everything, even down to our smallest cells, carries energy. This energy impacts our well-being, which is why creating “high vibrations” is essential. King emphasizes practicing gratitude, taking action, and believing in our worth, while also reminding us that even when we don’t get what we want, it often leads to better outcomes.
Thinking back on my life, this has been so true. Jobs I didn’t get or plans that fell through often led to opportunities that were far better than I could have imagined. This perspective shift has been so helpful, and I highly recommend the book. If you’re struggling to identify things to be grateful for, King includes some great prompts to get you thinking—it’s a game-changer for daily gratitude practice.
Inspired by one of the book’s lessons about finishing what you start, I decided to swap my next planned read for a book I’ve had sitting on my shelf for a while: All the Dangerous Things by Stacy Willingham. I started it yesterday and, let me tell you, it’s a page-turner! I loved her other book, A Flicker in the Dark, and this one is just as gripping. Every time I think I’ve figured out the mystery, my mind shifts to another suspect. It’s been a nice break from self-help books—balancing fiction with non-fiction has kept my reading fresh and exciting.
School and Life Updates
This week marks Week 3 of my class, and I’ve got a big literature review due next Sunday. One thing about school is that you’re often thrown into the deep end with a lot of work in a short time. But I’ll get it done—it’s all about pacing myself and staying focused.
On the health front, my migraines have been relentless lately. I had been using Botox treatments, which were effective, but they’re costly even with insurance. Unfortunately, I’ve had to skip the last two rounds, and the migraines are back with a vengeance. I’m trying a steroid pack and adjusting some other medications in the meantime, so fingers crossed they help. Did you know migraines can leave harmless spots on your brain? Neither did I until recently—it’s wild, but I’m not letting it stress me out.
Weight Loss Wins
In brighter news, tomorrow is weigh-in day, and as of last week, I’ve lost 64 pounds since Mother’s Day 2024! My long-term goal is to lose about 5 pounds a month, and while it doesn’t always go that way, I’m proud of how far I’ve come. I started at a size 30, and today, I bought pants in a size 16 and 18—and they both fit! That’s such a huge milestone for me.
At my heaviest, I was 164 pounds heavier than I am now—that’s an entire person’s worth of weight gone. While the loose skin can be frustrating, I’m choosing to focus on how far I’ve come. Surgery isn’t on my radar right now, but who knows what the future holds.
Weekend Plans and Hopes
The rest of my weekend looks like this: church, finishing my schoolwork, hopefully completing All the Dangerous Things, and getting some much-needed rest. I’m holding onto hope that this headache eases up so I can feel like myself again.
What about you? How was your weekend? Did you do anything fun, or have you read any good books lately? I’d love to hear about it!
