From TikTok Trouble to Tomato Plants: A Week in My Life

Well, the last week and a half has been interesting, to say the least.

Let’s start with the silly: I woke up one morning to find that my TikTok account was either hacked, banned, or vanished into the digital abyss. I couldn’t log in, and there was no real explanation. So, I’ve officially started fresh! If you want to follow me on my new account, I’m now over at @unapologeticamber (ironically named, since I’m anything but apologetic—more on that later).

On the home front, my husband and I finally put up a fence around our raised garden beds. We haven’t planted anything yet, but that might be a next-weekend project. For now, we have a jalapeño plant and a tomato plant chilling in buckets, and both are flowering—so I’m taking that as a promising sign.

In more plant news (yes, this is apparently a plant-forward blog today), I’ve got my eye on a few houseplants I want to bring home: a pitcher plant, a string of turtles, and a string of frogs. They’re funky, cute, and slightly dramatic—just like me.

Health-wise, I received my first ever abnormal pap smear. Thankfully, it was HPV-negative, so my doctor initially said they’d treat it as a negative and just check again next year. I spent the weekend spiraling, only to get a call mid-week saying the lab was asked to do further testing. That was days ago, and I haven’t heard anything else. So, for now? I’m choosing peace until proven otherwise. Next year’s problem.

Today, my husband and I went to the Flowertown Festival, and we had a blast. It was HOT though—like drink-all-the-water hot. I did buy water there, but I still ended up feeling overheated. Note to self: tomorrow, we hydrate before the festival, not just during.

Also, tomorrow I have to bake for our church bake sale and drop everything off around 3:30. Pray for my oven.

Easter is coming, and I’m stumped on what to put in teen boy Easter baskets. Yes, my boys still get baskets—and no, I don’t care how old they are. Everyone loves surprises and a little love in a basket, okay? While at the Flowertown Festival, I also managed to knock out Christmas presents for my parents, my in-laws, and Miles’s grandfather. Yes, it’s April. Yes, I am already thinking about Christmas. There are only so many paychecks in a year, and I like to plan ahead. Five people down—boom—feeling accomplished.

In the news this week: Tennessee (my home state) got hit with some serious storms. Meanwhile, here in South Carolina, it’s been sunny and borderline scorching. Also… measles? Again? I’m a firm believer in vaccinations. This is exactly why this blog is called Unapologetically Amber—I believe in science, in keeping our kids safe, and I won’t apologize for it. Quick caveat: I don’t blindly support every vaccine. For example, my kids won’t be getting the COVID-19 vaccine until they’re at least 18. Tariffs are also making headlines, and yes, I support increasing them. Other countries often charge us way more than we charge them—it’s time for a little balance. Again, not everyone agrees, but I’m not here to make everyone comfortable.

On a lighter note, I’ve started reading Sorry I’m Late, I Didn’t Want to Come: One Introvert’s Year of Saying Yes by Jessica Pan. It’s hilarious, relatable, and honestly a little inspiring. Today at the Flowertown Festival, I even tried to make small talk and connect with people. It was slightly overwhelming (hello, giant crowd), but it was also refreshing. And those conversations? They led me to some homemade Christmas gifts, so I’d say it was a win.

And in other great fun news this week—on Netflix—the new season of Love on the Spectrum is out! You guys, I am so obsessed. A tiny spoiler alert here: in episode 2, Madison tells the “love coach” very clearly that she doesn’t like being called Maddie because it makes her anxious. And then what does the coach do as she’s leaving? Calls her Maddie. I was so mad! Like, girl, she literally just told you that?! Ugh. But anyway—I absolutely adore Tanner, Connor, Abby, and David. I’m still learning about the other individuals, but if you’re looking for a sweet, wholesome show that’ll warm your heart and make you smile, this is it.
