Celebrations, Adventures, and a Little Chaos: A Week in Review

What a week it has been since I last wrote to you all! Yesterday was my husband’s birthday, and we spent the entire weekend celebrating.

To kick things off, my brother-in-law arrived in town to join the festivities. On Friday night, we indulged in a giant pizza from Benny Mazzetto’s—when I say giant, I mean it covered half of our kitchen island! Saturday was packed with adventure. We started with a whiskey tasting at Firefly Distillery (though whiskey isn’t my thing, I did get to pet some adorable dogs, so that was a win). Afterward, we grabbed lunch at the Grits Counter, where I had the most amazing jalapeño cheddar grits with crispy Brussels sprouts and hot chicken—absolutely delicious!

Next, we explored downtown Charleston and took Jason’s brother to the nation’s oldest liquor store. On Sunday, we spent time at Donnelley Wildlife Management and had an incredible day spotting alligators. Then, we visited the stunning Angel Oak tree, estimated to be over 400 years old! We wrapped up the weekend with Mexican food, Nothing Bundt Cakes, and present opening. Yesterday, after sending Josh back home, Jason and I enjoyed brunch and a Costco run—needless to say, I am exhausted!

Back to reality today! Work is keeping me busy (which is a blessing), but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t feeling drained. I also managed to complete my CITI training for Institutional Board Review during lunch, so one task is checked off the list. Now, I just need to tackle a big document for class, but since it’s not due until Sunday, I’m trying not to stress too much (though my panic attacks today suggest otherwise).

On a lighter note—New Book Review! I just finished You Are a Badass by Jen Sincero. If you’ve read High Vibes, High Life or Pray First, the message will feel familiar: set goals, visualize success, trust in God, and take action. What stood out about this book was its humor—it genuinely made me laugh and smile. While many self-growth books share similar themes, I believe reinforcing these ideas repeatedly helps build mental muscle memory. So, let’s keep reading and growing!

This week is going to be full, but I hope you all find time for both productivity and rest. I’ll leave you with a reminder, just as You Are a Badass closes each chapter—Love Yourself! ❤️

What’s something you’re looking forward to this week? Let’s chat in the comments! 😊
