Recently, I was contacted by my former university. The same university tied to one of the darkest mental spaces I’ve ever been in. The same place that, not long ago, completely broke my spirit.
It was about the same issue that led to my breakdown. The same situation where I felt unheard, unsupported, and honestly—mistreated. But this time, they wanted my side of the story.
So, I told it.
The person who contacted me was polite enough, but it was clear they typically lean toward the teacher’s version of events. Still, they pointed me in the direction of where I could file a formal grievance. And I did. I submitted everything—time-stamped, documented, factual. My truth.
To be honest, I don’t expect much from them. I’m no longer enrolled, and I have no intention of going back. I’ve closed that chapter, and I’m not reopening it—not even to peek.
Do I worry they’ll try to impact my academic future? A little. But here’s what I’ve learned: I can’t control what others do. I can control how I respond. And this time, I responded with courage, clarity, and strength.
This whole ordeal has taught me a lesson that no curriculum ever could. Sometimes, people will try to break you—not because you’re wrong, but because they disagree with how you choose to show up. Because you challenge the norm. Because your voice is louder than they expected.
And yes, for a moment, they did break me. But I rebuilt.
Stronger. Wiser. Louder.
The outcome of the grievance? I don’t know yet. But what I do know is this: I didn’t let this situation take me out. I stood up. I spoke up. And I took back my power.
That is more than any grade or degree could give me.
I am stronger than I’ve ever been—and I’m just getting started.
