This blog post is a little surprise—because, honestly, it surprised me. I just wrapped up my summer reading list (yay me!), and I was excited to dive into the next set of books I had lined up. I even posted and said confidently, “These are the next three books I’ll be reading.”
The books I picked are:
📘 Awaken: 90 Days With the God Who Speaks by Priscilla Shirer
📓 The Glow Up Journal by Dr. Danielle Richardson, OD
📕 Happy by Fearne Cotton
I went into this knowing the first was a 90-day devotional-style book, and that The Glow Up Journal was, well, a journal. No big deal—I figured I’d read them together, one day at a time, reflecting as I go.
Then I picked up Happy… and surprise! It’s also a reflective journal with prompts and exercises built right in. I truly wasn’t expecting all three to be this introspective—and now I’m laughing at myself because I thought I was just “reading,” not embarking on a full-on soul-searching journey.
Now I’m wondering if I need to add a fourth book—something a little different—to balance things out.
Maybe a good fiction book. Something that lets me escape a little, not just look inward.
I have so many books on my shelf waiting to be read, especially ones by local authors I love and want to support. But now I’m torn. Should I pick up:
- A paranormal romance (because who doesn’t love a little magic and mystery)?
- A story about a strong woman who always holds it all together—until she suddenly can’t and has to learn to rely on others?
- Or a twisty mystery that keeps me guessing?
I’ll definitely be writing reviews for the three books I’m working through now once I spend more time with them. But until then—I’d love your help.
💬 What Do You Think?
What should I read next? Drop your suggestions in the comments: team paranormal, emotional fiction, or a good mystery? Or—if you’ve read something recently that really stuck with you, tell me! I’m always open to new reads.
