I recently completed The Glow Up Journal by Danielle Richardson, OD, and wow—it’s a game-changer! Unlike other books that only talk about transformation, this journal helps you put the principles into practice. It condenses big ideas from personal development and lifestyle books into actionable steps that you can integrate daily. Here’s what I learned from each section and why I recommend it for your glow-up journey.
1. Main Character Energy & Daily Routines
The first section focuses on main character energy and upgrading your daily routine. It makes you reflect on your current habits and identify small glow-ups you can implement right away—without feeling overwhelmed.
2. Diet & Exercise—On Your Terms
What I love about this part is its flexibility. There are no rigid rules like “you must do this workout” or “you can’t eat that.” Instead, it meets you where you are, helping you make decisions that fit your lifestyle.
3. Holistic Self-Care Practices
This chapter dives into mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual health. The prompts help you find small moments throughout the day for self-care, turning it into a habit instead of a once-in-a-while luxury.
4. Visualizing Your Dream Life
This section was my favorite. It encourages creating a vision board and mapping out what success looks like for you in every area of life. There’s even a personality test prompt to help you understand your strengths and weaknesses. (I’m an INFJ-T!) It made me realize the power of playing to my strengths—insightful, thoughtful, reliable—while working on my growth areas like delegation and self-promotion.
5. Beauty, Style & Signature Vibe
The final chapter is about personal style, beauty, and confidence. It even suggests asking two people close to you for five words that describe you. My husband and a dear friend said: loving, thoughtful, intelligent, funny, diligent, joyful, faith-driven, encouraging, educated, and sophisticated. I was so touched! Sometimes we don’t see ourselves the way others do—and this was a beautiful exercise.
6. Tracking Your Glow Up
The second part of the journal is all about tracking your progress. There’s a Sunday check-in for your weekly goals, daily gratitude prompts, glow-up wins, and space to plan for tomorrow. With over 20 weeks of tracking, this is where the real magic happens.
💬 Reader Prompt:
Are you planning your own glow up? Would you try The Glow Up Journal? Let me know in the comments—I’d love to hear about your journey (and maybe share mine along the way)!
