Real Life Weekends: Why Relaxing Is Rare and How We Make the Most of It

et’s get real—weekends were made for relaxing, but how often does that actually happen? Rarely! Why? Because there are always things that need to be done. My husband swears by cleaning the house on Friday evenings so we can enjoy the weekend a little more freely, and honestly, I love this system. It makes Saturdays and Sundays feel a bit lighter, even if they still end up being packed.

1. Errands, Errands, and More Errands

Even with a clean house, weekends often turn into errand marathons. We hit the grocery store, swing by Target, check out the farmer’s market, and inevitably add a few more stops along the way. It’s a mix of laughter, inside jokes, and occasionally, a little hangry tension—mainly because I can never decide where to eat. (My husband would probably call that the bane of his existence!)

2. Football Season Takes Over

Now that football season is back, Saturdays are all about college games, and Sundays are for the pros. Since we’re originally from Tennessee, my husband misses watching the Titans live, but he finds a game to enjoy anyway. As for me? I’m really just here for the snacks—and let’s be honest, game-day snacks make everything better.

3. Finding Balance

Even with errands and football, weekends still hold something special. They’re a chance to reconnect, share laughs, and even embrace the chaos. And if we manage to sneak in a quiet coffee or an afternoon nap? That’s a win.

💬 Reader Prompt:
What do your weekends look like? Are they full of errands, sports, and snacks like ours, or do you keep things more low-key? Share in the comments—I’d love to hear!

I am fortunate that only a couple of Saturdays are month are for cleaning and shopping. I am off every other Friday, so I can run errands and clean. On my “off” Saturdays, relaxing, reading, and porch sitting are my priorities. This allows for me time, special times with my hubby, and connecting with our community while sitting on the porch.
