Why Balance Is a Myth and What You Should Strive for Instead

You will never be perfectly balanced. Life doesn’t operate that way. Our priorities shift, our roles change, and just when we think we have a handle on things, God often introduces His own plans. And honestly? That’s not something to resist—it’s something to embrace.

Instead of seeking balance, I’ve started focusing on blending.

Blending means understanding that some areas of your life will require more attention than others depending on the season you’re in. It means allowing room for grace and flexibility—without constantly feeling like you’re failing at the “juggle.”

When we obsess over achieving balance, we often find ourselves overwhelmed. That anxiety creeps in and leads to more than just mental stress—it can take a real toll on our bodies too. Trust me, I’ve been there. I deal with anxiety often. But a major shift happened for me when I stopped trying to perfectly balance everything and started recognizing that priorities are fluid—sometimes they shift monthly, weekly, daily… even hourly.

“Balance says everything matters equally. Blending says: focus on what matters right now.”

Yes, I still have routines and to-do lists. I still try to manage the things that need to be done. But I’ve released the idea that everything has to be done with the same urgency or weight. Some things can wait. Some things deserve my full attention. And it’s okay if that looks different from one day to the next.

Let’s Talk About the Myth Some More:

Balance often sells us the illusion that we’re failing if our lives aren’t equally distributed. But in truth:

  • New moms don’t have time for balanced friendships.
  • Business owners may let housework slide during a launch.
  • Caregivers might not hit the gym this week—and that’s okay.

Trying to keep all the balls in the air only leads to burnout. Life isn’t about juggling—it’s about choosing. Choosing what gets your energy today, and letting the rest sit in peace until it’s their turn.

What You Can Focus On:

  • 🎯 Prioritize your top 1–2 areas for the week and give them your best.
  • 🧘‍♀️ Let go of the guilt of not doing it all.
  • 🙏 Ask God to reveal what truly needs your attention right now.
  • 💗 Trust that what’s meant for you will not pass you by—even if it waits a little.

Call to Action:

Pause and reflect:

  1. What are you currently trying to “balance” that’s actually pulling you in too many directions?
  2. Where can you give yourself permission to blend instead—focusing on one or two things and letting the rest wait without guilt?
  3. This week, choose peace over pressure. What gets your attention is what grows.
