How to Reset Your Mindset in 10 Minutes or Less

Do you ever feel like you started the week off strong—and then all of a sudden, midweek hits and your motivation just vanishes? Maybe your mood shifts and you’re not even sure why. One moment you’re fine, the next you feel off. Disgusted, maybe. (Hello, Riley from Inside Out—I see you.)

That happened to me recently. I couldn’t pinpoint why my mood flipped, but I recognized the shift—and more importantly, I didn’t want to spiral into it. I told my coworker, “I feel off today, and I don’t even know why.” She said the same. Maybe the universe was telling us we weren’t vibing with the task at hand—but either way, we got through it.

The Power of the Pause

I realized something powerful in that moment: awareness is everything.

By recognizing my mood shift, I gave myself a pause. I breathed. I took a step back. I asked myself, “How do I actually want to feel right now?” That moment of clarity was a small reset.

That got me thinking—what if we gave ourselves ten minutes to reset our mindset during these midday or midweek slumps?

How to Shift Your Mindset in 10 Minutes

Here’s what works for me (based on personal experience, books, and podcasts I love):

  1. Pause and Breathe: Acknowledge how you’re feeling without judgment. Then ask, “How do I want to feel?”
  2. Do One Small Self-Care Task:
    • At home? Step outside barefoot. Let the earth ground you.
    • At work? Step away. Grab water. Reapply hand lotion. Stretch your back.
    • For me, skincare routines always center me.
  3. Visualize the Rest of Your Day Going Well:
Close your eyes for 30 seconds. Imagine joy, peace, or productivity. Think of your future self thanking you.
  4. Take One Tiny Step Toward a Goal:
This gives you an instant win and a momentum boost. One small action can reignite your fire.

Let’s Be Real…

Does this always work? Honestly—no. Sometimes I choose to ride the negative wave. I let the darkness come in, because sometimes we need to process that too. The difference now is: I recognize it. And I try not to stay there too long.

Even on my toughest days, I remind myself: I want to feel better. I want peace. And I try to take one small step toward that.

And if all else fails?

Take. A. Shower.
Seriously. Let the water wash away the energy of the day. Picture the stress swirling down the drain. It helps—every single time.
