Mid-Year Reset: 3 Questions to Shift Your Mindset and Refocus Your Year

We’ve officially reached the halfway point of the year! For me, this year has already brought unexpected challenges—and I’m sure more are to come. But instead of dreading what lies ahead, I want to talk about something more empowering: shifting our mindset for the remainder of the year.

I came across three simple but impactful questions that can help us refocus and reset. I hope they help you the way they helped me.

1. What is something you can do today to make you feel happy?

This question invites us to take ownership of our happiness. Too often we wait for people, events, or circumstances to bring us joy—but what if we created it ourselves?

For me, it’s journaling. I usually write in pencil, but I’ve found that using colorful pens and adding stickers makes me surprisingly happy. It may seem small, but it’s creative, fun, and just for me. What’s your small happy thing?

2. If you had all the time and money in the world, what would you do?

This one’s tough—because the possibilities feel endless.

If I had the time and resources, I’d donate to children’s hospitals and help families overwhelmed with medical bills, especially those fighting childhood cancer. I’d advocate for women, especially Native American women, and volunteer in the criminal justice system. I’d probably even start a podcast and learn to cross-stitch. These are the passions that live in my heart, waiting for the right time to bloom.

This question helps uncover what truly matters to us—and points us toward ways to integrate that meaning into our everyday lives.

3. What are your guiding principles and values?

For me, it’s simple: I want to be a good person. I want to be remembered as someone who was kind, helpful, trustworthy, and caring. These are the values that guide my decisions and shape my life.

Take a Moment to Reflect

These three questions aren’t just food for thought—they’re tools for transformation. They’ve helped me find clarity during a challenging season, and I hope they can do the same for you.

So now I ask you:

  • What can you do today to feel joy?
  • What would you do with unlimited time and resources?
  • What values guide your life?

And finally, do you have any mindset-shifting questions that you’ve found helpful? I’d love to hear your thoughts—let’s inspire one another as we move forward into the second half of the year with renewed focus and purpose.
