August Recap: Goals, Wins, Lessons & a Few Surprises

I can’t believe it is already the last day of August!

I know people always say that the older you get, the faster time seems to fly, but honestly, I think there is some truth to it. It feels like we just started August, and somehow we are already getting ready for September.

So, I thought it would be fun to take a look back at my August goals and see what I accomplished, what didn’t quite go according to plan, and what I learned along the way.

Let’s dive in!

Financial Goals

My financial goal for August was to save an extra $100 and cancel any unused subscriptions.

I’m going to count this one as a success!

I was able to save the extra $100, which was my goal, and I also went through my subscriptions and cancelled the ones I wasn’t using.

There is one exception: Thrive Market.

I decided to hold off on cancelling that subscription for now since it doesn’t end until November. Once that time comes, I’ll make the decision about whether I want to continue it.

Overall, I’m happy with how this goal turned out. Every little bit of intentional saving and cutting unnecessary expenses can make a difference.

August financial goal: Success!

Health Goals

This category didn’t go quite as planned.

My goal was to lose five pounds, but instead, I gained four.

Honestly, I’m not shocked. Weight can ebb and flow, and I’m trying to remind myself that one month doesn’t define my overall progress. The good news is that I am still down compared to the beginning of the year, so I’ll absolutely count that as a bonus!

I also wanted to continue exercising consistently. Unfortunately, I’ve been a little lazy this month and haven’t been going to the gym as frequently as I should. I’m sure that played a role in the weight gain as well.

On the positive side, I did accomplish one of my health goals: increasing my water intake.

That may seem like a small thing, but it’s something I’ve been wanting to work on, so I’m happy to see some progress there.

August health goals: Mixed results, but progress is still progress!

Business Goals

My business goals were probably where I had the biggest surprise this month.

My goal was to close on two houses as a transaction coordinator.

As long as everything goes smoothly today, that goal will be accomplished, with my second house scheduled to close today!

Fingers crossed that everything goes according to plan.

But the biggest surprise of the month was my publishing goal.

I wanted to publish one book on Amazon.

Instead, I published six!

I definitely wasn’t expecting to exceed that goal quite so dramatically.

The word search puzzle books I published are:

  • Haunted Halloween
  • Thanksgiving
  • Merry Christmas
  • A New Year
  • Valentine’s Day
  • An Egg-Cellent Easter

I’m really excited about getting these books out into the world, especially because they cover several upcoming holidays and seasons.

August business goals: Huge win!

Personal Goals

My personal goal for August was to read two books.

I’ll be honest—I wasn’t sure I was going to accomplish this one.

But somehow, I not only reached my goal, I doubled it!

I ended up reading four books this month:

  • Becoming Supernatural by Dr. Joe Dispenza
  • Stop Overthinking by Nick Trenton
  • The Librarian of Auschwitz by Antonio Iturbe
  • Calm Christmas by Beth Kempton

Reading four books when my original goal was two definitely feels like a win.

I love setting reading goals because they encourage me to make time for something I genuinely enjoy, even when life gets busy.

August reading goal: Exceeded!

Family Goal

My family goal for August was simple: enjoy the start of the new school year.

Well…school has only been in session for about a month, and the youngest has already had pink eye!

And now he and the hubby are both battling some type of cold/flu situation.

So, let’s just say the start of the school year has been a bit of a whirlwind!

Even when things don’t go exactly as planned, I’m trying to remember to enjoy the little moments and appreciate this stage of life. There will always be sickness, busy schedules, unexpected surprises, and chaotic days.

That’s just life with a family!

August family goal: A work in progress!

Looking Back at August

Overall, I’m pretty happy with how August turned out.

I didn’t accomplish every goal exactly as I had planned, but that’s okay. Goals are meant to give us direction, not make us feel like failures when life gets in the way.

I saved money, cancelled unnecessary subscriptions, improved my water intake, stayed on track with my business, published six books instead of one, and read four books instead of two.

My health goals didn’t go quite the way I wanted, and our family has already experienced some of the chaos that comes with a new school year, but there is still plenty to celebrate.

Sometimes the biggest lesson from a monthly recap is realizing that progress doesn’t always look exactly the way we imagined it would.

And that’s okay.

What’s Next?

Now that August is officially coming to an end, it’s time to start thinking about September goals and intentions.

What do I want to accomplish? What habits do I want to work on? And where do I want to focus my time and energy?

You’ll have to come back tomorrow to find out!
