Unapologetically Amber: Living Life, Unfiltered

Book Review: Starcrossed Nocturne by Nadine Theiss — A Vampire Romance I Didn’t Expect to Love

Let me start with the truth: I am not a romance novel person.
I usually avoid them completely. But in February 2025, at a writer’s event, I listened to Nadine Theiss talk about her book—a story featuring an 800-year-old female vampire and the intense, intertwined love story that unfolds.

The moment she mentioned vampires, suspense, and supernatural depth, I was in. Paranormal? Horror? Vampires? That is absolutely my lane.

So I gave Starcrossed Nocturne a try… and WOW.
This book grabbed my attention immediately and didn’t let go.

It is beautifully written, atmospheric, emotional, and gripping, with characters that feel alive (and undead in the best way).

Why This Book Works — Even If You’re Not a Romance Reader

What I love most about this story is that it doesn’t rely on just romance.
It blends multiple genres in a way that feels seamless:

  • Adventure
  • Suspense
  • Romance
  • Mystery
  • Dark emotional depth
  • Paranormal elements that feel rich and immersive

The worldbuilding is vivid without being overwhelming. The pacing is tight. And the emotional stakes? HIGH.

Nadine Theiss does an incredible job showing what it means to love across centuries, to carry grief and desire in equal measure, and to face danger that feels both physical and emotional.

There are scenes that feel like they belong on a movie screen—action sequences, quiet moments of truth, spicy tension, and character-driven drama that hits all the right places.

A Little More About the Book

The story follows an ancient vampire whose existence spans centuries—long enough to understand love, loss, immortality, and the weight of time. When a human love interest enters the story, everything unfolds from there: intense chemistry, deep inner conflict, supernatural danger, and secrets that unravel piece by piece.

The dynamic between the characters is electric.
The plot keeps you turning the page.
And the emotional development is surprisingly powerful.

There’s something incredibly compelling about a centuries-old vampire dealing with modern emotions, old wounds, and new love. Theiss writes it in a way that feels tender and fierce at the same time.

Honestly, this book is cinematic.
I can easily picture it adapted into a film or series—dark lighting, dramatic music, slow-burn tension, and that fantasy adventure edge.

Final Thoughts — and My Full Recommendation

This story is everything:

✨ Adventure
✨ Suspense
✨ Thrills
✨ Love
✨ Emotion
✨ And yes… some very spicy scenes

It gives you all of it without leaning too hard in any one direction.
For someone like me—who prefers vampires, mystery, and darker stories rather than traditional romance—this book delivered exactly what I didn’t know I needed.

This is a 10/10 recommendation from me.
If you love paranormal books, strong female leads, supernatural lore, or intense emotional chemistry, you will love Starcrossed Nocturne.

And even if you don’t usually read romance?
Give this one a chance. Trust me.
